Sophie's Choice

Five weeks in (how time flies when you are chasing a semi-housetrained dog around with poopy bags, bribery treats, and Good Owners, Great Dogs in your hand, and yet the wait for June feels like the clock has literally stopped) and Sophie's still the cutest ever. She's a fickle one, though. Whenever Mike leaves the house, she goes into full whining mode. He says she does the same thing when I leave too, but I don't know about that. I'm more the disciplinarian so she probably breathes a sigh of relief, finally getting a break from hearing me squawk "Off! Go potty! No bite!" Daddy's much more fun. Really, though, she's a good doggie in general. I try to remember that one day we'll miss her puppy days, exhausting as they are.

Anywho, congrats to the Salsa in China peeps on their adoption. Proof that while it feels like forfreakingever, it DOES happen! Could those girls be cuter? I think I'll just sit and sigh a while...

Brina's Wedding

Ahhh, Wisconsin. Land of the cheese (mmmmm, cheese), home of the Packers. It was where my friends Brent and Gina got married in lovely Door County this past weekend. They were kind enough to invite me and my winter coat to join them (average temp this weekend: 40's. Felt like: really really a lot colder). Somehow we braved the outdoors (or should I say SHE braved it in her strapless frock, the rest of us snug in heavy coats, Packer blankets, etc) and it was quite beautiful.

I must say I met possibly the nicest people ever this weekend. For any Midwestern folk reading this, I give you props for your hospitality, laid-backness and kindness. As an East Coaster who is used to being almost always stressed out and around people who are almost always stressed out, it was refreshing to slow the pace a little.

And I have to tell you about my introduction to cheese curds. They are heaven. If you like cheese. Squeaky cheese, that is. When Gina and Brent first described them to me, I was slightly horrified (but only slightly because really is there any bad cheese?), and then they brought me a bag to sample. Then we moved on to deep fried cheese curds. Then some wine. Then a nap in the car on the way to the hotel. Absolutely lovely.

Anyway, congrats to the happy couple. Your wedding was one righteous party. Come see us in Philly when you're ready to return for a cheesesteak.

She's settling in nicely...
